Vogue has always been a gauge of fame, celebrity and success, an insight into the stylistic zeitgeist and, less obviously perhaps, a meter of excellence within photography. The grandIy-titled People in Vogue - A Century of Portrait Photography lives up to its heady moniker by tracing not only the magazine’s history but presenting a visual documentary of the last 100 years. Here, the photographers that shaped the age, Bailey, Beaton, Newton, Teller, Testino and Snowdon capture the people of those moments, from Brando and Bardot to Blanchett and Winslet via Jane Birkin and John Barry (pictured). Surely a rare occasion for celebrating style over substance. I People in Vogue — A Century of Portrait Photography is out now, published by Litt/e, Brown.
