The people behind Progression are justifiably proud. Not only has their club built an impressive reputation over the last three years but this third birthday bash celebrates what is possibly their biggest coup yet: enticing Deep Dish to play their first ever Edinburgh date.
The Dish have been a big noise on the global house scene (including helping to define the term ‘deep house‘) since 1995. with Washington DC duo Ali Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi going on to reme everyone from heavyweight mate Madonna to Justin Timberlake. winnrng a Grammy along the way. So it‘s surprising they‘ve never added a gig in the capital to their previous T in the Park and Glasgow appearances. It‘s also fitting that they‘re having a four-hour set at the city's premier progressive house night.
In between enthusing about their big name. capture. Derek Martin (Progression resident. along with Alan Dobson and Gav Grant) is also upbeat about the future of the club. 'Most of the big prog jocks have played Progression. so we're trying to widen the scope and get some new faces in.‘ he says. ‘Although. to be honest. after only three years we‘re pretty chuffed with where we are now. We‘re always looking to do things around Scotland and down south. but we‘ve got a strong following in Edinburgh and that's our main focus. With 600 or 700 people going nuts in the Liquid Room. it‘s always a great night.“ (David Pollock)
