THE INTERROGATION Puppet theatre aimed at an adult audience.
This is the true story of Silviu Craciunas, a Romanian dissident who fled his country in the 19505. Opening in Southern England in an old people’s home, where he ended up. a puppet portrays the harrowing reflections of Silviu’s memories; his return to Romania, recapture and torture. The interrogator is played by playwright, puppeteer and company director, Richard Medrington. ‘This is a story about a man at the mercy of an enormous machine, who has very little chance of survival,’ says Medrington. ‘Torture is very hard to do with real actors, whereas you can suggest terrible things with puppets. They can create emotional distance, while also drawing you in in a different way, so that suspension of disbelief is enabled’.
