After the in-fighting and subsequent
disorganisation that was last year's Pride
(now more commonly known as Atomic Kittengate). it was thought that all was lost for this year. But before you decide to hang up your flag and whistle, a newly formed and independent group has saved the day and is
calling it Pride Scotia.
Meeting at 11.30am on Edinburgh‘s East Market Street for speeches by elected representatives and dignitaries including controversial Green MSP Patrick Harvie, the march will go from the Mound to Princes Street. along Leith Street and will finish off at Broughton Street. Everybody has been considered in the day’s plans with a SWAN (Self-identifying Women are Nesting) Space. childcare in Mansfield Traquair and a Youth Space at. the LGBT Centre for teenagers. There is also a Health and Community Fair in Ego which will be attended by a vast and varied array of stands from Gay Men‘s Health and the Lothian and Borders Police to BearScots.
But why did people feel the need to continue the Pride tradition? “Being there and bearing witness to the event is important. especially for people in the closet,‘ says John Hein, treasurer of Pride Scotia and editor of Scots Gay magazine. ‘lt's one day when there‘s solidarity and no one is going to
