MASSIFF ADVENTURE King's Court. Trongate. Sun 6 Jul
5 .' '."%~l."-3§i -.
When you think of summer, you think festivals. OK, after you've thought of sunbathing, barbecues and ice cold beers. With this in mind. King‘s Court has decided to hold the first ever Massiff Adventure in Trongate to celebrate its unique and contemporary vibe.
No need to get a bus, no need to camp and definitely no need to share your piss-soaked square inch of grass with a drunken ned. Instead, it all happens in one day and in two parts. Start the day off Brazilian style with a carnival parade from George Square to King's Court and then get ready to start part one. It includes an outdoor main stage which will be graced by the presence of the Soul II Soul Soundsystem featuring Jazzie B, the Live Sciences with human beat box Psylent V and Richard Wharf from NYC's funk outfit Groove Collective.
There will also be Smokebelch featuring Chaz and Messenger Soundsystem v Mungo's Hi Fi, the east v west dub clash. Art comes in the shape of an urban arts programme in Mono where the Free Gallery will present a picture of contemporary city culture through multimedia installations, graffiti art, design, dance and performance. Part two takes on a clubbier feel at the Riverside Social with Herbaliser Ollie Teeba.
Since the collapse and subsequent move from the Virginia Galleries, King’s Court has become a v‘brant area with independent retailers such as Mr Ben, Trip, Cyber and Spiker as well as the 13th Note Cafe, Mono and Free hair design and clinic. Add to this the contemporary art feel of the local galleries and it is definitely worth joining in this collaborative carnival, where you can check out some art and have a drink and some food while listening to some excellent soul, dub, reggae and Brazilian music. King’s Court and summer . . . a match made in contemporary heaven. (Jane Hamilton)
