to Basketball Scotland statistics, 37% of young people in Scotland play basketball regularly. Whether that’s competitively. or just knocking around a schoolyard or ash park, is less significant than the implied truth that we have
taken basketball to our hearts.
Thanks are owed, in part, to the Scottish Rocks. The team, their money-men and sponsors have instilled into a nation the idea that Americans don‘t have the monopoly on entertaining sport. Anyone who watched the Scotland football team play footie (badly) against Lithuania will know we're crying out for sporting supplements to the national game.
And so we welcome basketball celebs the Harlem Globetrotters to Glasgow. America’s original dream team are pure entertainment on a court. Who wasn‘t introduced to the glamour of basketball in the 705 by their loony. slam-dunking 'toon? Michael Jordan. Shaquille O'Neal and Dennis Rodman ascended to
national celebrity status in their wake.
The Globetrotters' ceiling-scraping line-up continues to bedazzle the world over. It's the first time they've appeared in Scotland since 1995, and this ‘Reclaiming the Game’ world tour will see them take on the New York Nationals, naturally giving way to some spectacular ball-control antics, slam-
dunks and hoop action.
