Diane Torr, the ambassador of drag kings, is in town and ready to challenge your identity. With over 25 years in the performing arts in New York and 14 years as a drag king, Torr knows a thing or two about men.
The first time she tried out her male persona, her friends didn't recognise her and a woman chatted her up all night. She now believes that all women should have a glimpse of life as their male alter ego. She set up drag-king workshops to teach women how to act and dress like men, how to use their presence and how to get the privilege that goes with being a man.
She’s also challenging men in her show, Drag Kings and Subjects as part of the Arches Festival of Scottish Theatre. It‘s a ‘provocative performance of gendertainment, transformation and desire', following the life of a woman disillusioned with her sexless marriage. That is, until she decides to play with her identity and step into the male domain, changing her life forever. (Jane Hamilton)
