I Dean Gallery Situated opposite the National Gallery of Modern Art. the Dean Gallery (pictured) is devoted entirely to 20th century art. Formerly a 19th century orphanage. it houses a large collection of work by Eduardo Paolozzi as well as outstanding pieces drawn from the National Galleries' dada and surrealist collections. Working life is a pain in the arse, let‘s face it. For most of us, the intense boredom of an office job tends to correlate directly to our hedonistic intake. There's not a lot we can do about that unfortunately, short of robbing a bank and travelling the world for the rest of our lives. Occasionally, though, those weekend forays into stimulant nirvana can get a little out of hand. When breakfast begins to involve more than just powdered milk and cornflakes, you may need a little help and reassurance that maybe your Friday doesn‘t necessarily have to merge into Wednesday.
‘I suppose the main thing about this is that it is new and innovative,‘ Paul Hunter, ESUS manager explains. ‘We are trying to make ourselves accessible to as many stimulant users as we can. Our target group is 16-25 year olds.’ Hunter is trying to avoid the council-speak that makes these programmes sound so well-meaning but dull. ‘Since 1987, the second summer of love,‘ he says, ‘thousands of people have been turned onto stimulants and though the drug trends have fluctuated greatly there has been a massive increase in the use and availability of powder cocaine and E. We just want to help people who find their lives spiralling out of control by offering free counselling and support.‘
