Gladiator turned politic commentator Omid Djalili’s performance in Gladiator, selling an enraged Oliver Reed ‘queer giraffes’, was tear-sheddineg sensitive, his balls in the custody of a British institution. Ollie’s since loosened his grip of course, Russell Crowe won an Oscar or something, but it’s Djalili who remains the one to watch.
From perennial ‘Arab scumbag' to Perrier nominee, 2002 was his
year, with the British Iranian comic selling out every Edinburgh festival date. Displaying a grace that belies his rotund frame, catch him bellydancing on the minefield of global political tensions in the fantastic Behind Enemy Lines.
