HoLoo SST MEMORIAL DAY ‘ ’ F __RGAL KEANE
Part of the national programme of events for Holocaust Memorial Day is this public lecture from BBC News’ special correspondent, Fergal Keane. In recent years, the Holocaust has become deeply embedded in our understanding of the patchwork of events that shaped modern Europe. With widespread news coverage of genocidal conflicts such as those in Rwanda and Bosnia in the last decade, questions have arisen as to what part the world’s press plays in the development of such atrocities. Keane asks: to what extent does the mass media’s portrayals of victims and perpetrators affect our understanding of the conflicts, and do, or should, they bear any responsibility for the actions themselves? (Gareth Davies)
