You'd think that after three weeks of nightly performances at the Edinburgh Fringe. Susan and Janice would want to sleep for a month. I know I do. and l was just reviewing. which I'm sure is much less taxing. But they must be made of stronger stuff than me. because not only are they not resting. they're heading straight out on a UK tour. They've never toured before. and they're both excited at the prospect. particularly as they‘ve arranged it so it‘s like a working holiday. 'lt's going to be great,’ says Janice enthusiastically. ‘We've got loads of time off so we‘re going to do the whole tourist thing. We’re going to meet up with friends too. so it‘s going to be fun.‘

Comedy meets tourism
missed the Fringe run. is a madcap mystery in which Susan and Janice stay in a mysterious guesthouse. full of bizarre characters, finding themselves in a number of increasingly odd situations. It‘s much more theatrical than previous shows — this is the first time they‘ve had props — but their trademark character acting and screwy humour is still very much in evidence. Some extra material will be added to the tow shows and they don't have to restrict the time to an
h0ur. as they did during the Fringe run.
They'll also be incorporating comedy workshops into the tour. The workshops are part of their crusade to encourage more women to enter a profession that is still very much dominated by men; just look at the Perrier shortlist this year. Janice is partiCUlarly vocal on this subject: 'You know. I've heard men say: “But women just aren't funny," and I think: “Who have you been Speaking to? Do you actually know any women?" A guy came up to me after a show this year and said: “I thought that was really good. but I wish you wouldn‘t curse." because women aren't supposed to do that are they?“
That this kind of attitude is still prevalent is amazing land very sad). but if there‘s anyone who can change it. it will be these two intelligent. likeable and

GLASGOW UPDATE A MOVE, A MAKEOVER AND MORE CLUBS
While Edinburgh picks itself up and brushes itself down after the festival. we can have a quick look at some of the changes that have been happening in Glasgow during August.
Clone Zone has moved back to a bigger and brighter location in its original home of Virginia Street. It had a hasty move from a crumbling Virginia Galleries several years ago into a squashed corner of the LGBT Centre foyer but now. thanks to its new premises. it has plenty of space: ideal for browsing through its ranges of clothes. toys. books. magazine and Videos.
Another change comes at the Waterloo. Glasgow's longest running gay bar. It has had an extensive makeover. the new look still in keeping with its Victorian theme. yet still slightly trendy and anonymous. No matter what the decor. the
Back to normal at the Clone Zone
Waterloo still attracts an older crowd and is the least pretentious place in town. The club Seventh Heaven has opened up in Elmbank Gardens at Charing
Cross and is holding a gay night every Wednesday. You can choose from retro funk on the first Wednesday. cabaret on the second and contempOrary beats on the third. The fourth brings another much needed women-only night to Glasgow (men are allowed in as guests). Time will tell whether or not people will head to the other end of the city centre from the main gay scene to sample something a little bit different. But as they say. a change is as good as a rest.
