MARTY GROSZ
While the programming at Henry's has focused predominantly on contemporary jazz. the occasional mainstream treat has also found its way into proceedings. Guitarist. Singer. wit and inimitable raconteur Marty Grosz falls firmly into that categOry. although his particular idiOSyncratic and hugely entertaining take on traditional jazz does not follow any party line. Grosz is the son of the famous German painter George Grosz. and was born in Berlin. but emigrated with his family to the USA to escape the Nazis in 1933. and became a naturalised American citizen. He is a visual artist as well as a musician. but above all. he is that great rarity. a genuine original. (Kenny Mathieson)
