Kicking oft a 30-month project to take songs and songwriting to the heart of Glasgow schools and communities. Celtic Connections presents The Singer And The Song. figureheaded by Dougie MacLean and featuring a series of noted songwriters in concen.
MacLean's own main auditorium appearance sees him wearing three hats: with strings. fronting a rock band. and in an acoustic setting with members of Deaf Shepherd. Calluna and the Poozies. The intimate Tron Theatre events cover the soft focus country-tinge of James Grant. Jackie Leven's angst. Allan Taylor's cool workmanship. the intensity of Nick Harper. Ivan Drever‘s winsome polish. and the unique genius of Michael Marra. whose songs have all that and then some.

Named after one of their exotic instruments. a double—reeded clarinet/shawm. Alboka are one of the great groups from the Basque country and culture. whose language. some suspect. is perhaps the oldest in Europe.
