BASEMENT JAXX
Too vacuous for some. too relentlessly upbeat for others, Basement Jaxx are still considered the great white hope for British house music. No matter what you thought of this year's second album, Booty. it's hard to believe that an act who could create such a wonderland mix of R88. soul and acid were once touted as the British Daft Punk. As bigger dance acts explore deeper and darker registers of dance music every day. Basement Jaxx just stick to the shallows. Was there ever a more summery single than this year's ‘Romeo'? Was there ever a colder. darker time in which to seek out a bit of that sun? (Tim Abrahams)
