New York-based saxophonist Sam Newsome is best known as the leader of his own world music-influenced Global Unity band. and has cut albums with them for Columbia and Palmetto. Newsome. a soprano sax specialist. was also featured on pianist David Berkman's superb Communication Theory album last year, and it is that association which now brings him to Scotland. Berkman is, of course. something of a regular in these parts now. and Newsome follows him, initially with a gig in Dundee. and then the inevitable baptism by sweat at Henry's. all with a top Scottish rhythm section.
