Mark B Presents Harlem World - The Sound Of the Big Apple Rappin’ (Heroes and Villains) .0... is truly remarkable. This is of course the Mark Bot the Blade and this solidly ompiled collection of all that ‘.-'.'as great :r‘. .ite 70s early 80s Harlem deserves a place in anyone's crate. From Africa Bambaataa Zulu Nation Cosmic Force to Kurtis Blow. TJ. S".'.’Etlt am Busy 8. this is a goldmrne of early hip hop funk. Shake It Up! (Beechwood) 0 These Garage Grcoves mixed by M:kee B of the Dr-.-em Team. DJ Target and Maxwell are so uninspired they will make yeti want to go and gas yetirself in one. Swim Team #2 (Swan) 0000 is a divine selection of strong ambient electronica compiled and in many cases produced by the legendary Wire's lead singer Colin Newman. There is some stunning stuff here particuarly the Silo's 'Root'. Newman's ‘Tsunami' and Bumpy's 'Blokey'. This also makes a great come-down listen. The Brazillian Job (Movement) .0 is allegedly twenty upfront drum and bass breaks mixed by DJ Marky what this is. is the boy with the biggest box showing off his technical prowess with all the passion and warmth of a dead fish. There are some great tunes here but they've been murdered. Skansen Music (Glasgow Underground) 0000 is great fun. Oslo’s Skansen club was recently voted one of the top five clubs in the world and this is a reCreation of the best night yeti could have there. Excellently mixed by Gier Aspenes (g— lia) this contains many gems btit particularly ldjut Boys and Laj's 'Karrnaka/r' and the wondrous 'Groove ls The Chord' by Ant Brikha. In The Beginning, There Was Rhythym (Soul Jazz) 000 sees thr; hyena of a label once again digging through other people's bins With a collection of all that was odd and funky iron the 80s ‘.'/llll sorrie absolute gems from '23 Skidoo. A Certain Ratio. Slrts and The Human League. The Politics Of Dancing (Ministry Of Sound, 0 Paul ‘Charisma by- pass' van Dyk once again patronises the buying public Wllll an object lesson on how to get twelve-year olds on drugs to dance all night to shite music.
