MARTIN TAYLOR
Martin Taylor’s Nitelife CD is already heading for major sales, and builds on the success of his debut for Sony Jazz, Kiss and Tell. Taylor viewed signing with Sony as a chance to develop fusion- oriented directions he had explored in the late 805, and acknowledges that joining such a label means ‘you have to play the game to some degree’. There is still plenty of jazz action within this more radio- friendly format, though, and his touring band also features saxophonist Denys Baptiste, whose own Alternating Currents (Dune Records) features a couple of guest shots from the guitarist.
