Scotland has hundreds of historic buildings whose interior treasures are hidden from the public. During September everybody will have the opportunity to enjoy the history and architectural beauty of these buildings when they throw open their doors free of charge.
Glasgow’s Doors Open weekend is organised by the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust which has encouraged over 250 venues to participate in the twelve-year-old event. Everything from churches and bars to offices and schools will be joining in, highlights including the recently renovated St Andrews in the Square, the Scottish Ballet headquarters and Scottish Sculpture Studios.
Two of the most exciting
additions to this year’s programme are the India Tyre Factory which is one of the finest examples of Art Deco in Scotland which has been rescued from dereliction, and the Daldowie Doocot (pictured), an ‘A’ listed red sandstone tower with false battlements and musket slots, which has been
