Everybody loves a bit of weird groove. don 't they? Just as well. because new tri-month/y night Fake aims to provide a much needed dose of off-kilter funk. If facts are a ship tossed on the ancient seas. Jack Mottram is. paradoxical/y, both Sey/la and Charybdis.
Weird grooves? I try to keep up with all this dance music jargon, I really do, but that’s a new one on me. Fair enough. I think the team behind Fake — that's Jim Hutchison and Brian Murnin — just made it up to describe the brand of music they aim to play.
Which is? European. clicky house music with an electro edge. It's still house music. with all the funky. bass-heavy. four-four tun which that entails. And Detroit techno rhythms. too. Plus a healthy dose of good old electro. It might sound like an across the board blend of every kind of dance music currently popular in Glasgow. but you should think more along the lines of an overall aesthetic rooted in hi-tech noises.
Eek, that sounds scarin like lDM (see, I do know the jargon). Far from it, Hutchison and Murnin aren't aiming to attract head-nodding types who enjoy a hearty discussion about snare samples. This is a light- hearted night for dancers only. I suspect they‘re trying to avoid the stock-in-trade deep house that is. quite frankly. an overexposed genre in this fair city. And don't say 'lDtvl'. it makes me feel queasy.
Sorry. It sounds rather good. Will there be guests? Funny you should ask. The opening night sees Richard Fearless (pictured). of Death in Vegas fame. take to the decks for something of an electro showcase. Second on the bill is Mat Carter — one—time Bedroom Bedlam winner and resident at Checkponit Charlie — who tends toward the deeper end of the electro—techno spectrum.
