Bond
There aren’t many string quartets who can claim to have sold a million albums, appeared in the pop charts and posed naked for photographs. But then Bond aren’t just any old bunch of fiddlers. Since their formation in 1999, the sassy foursome have taken a battering ram to classical convention, pouring everything from salsa to trance into their arrangements of traditional compositions. Comprising Australian violinist Haylie Ecker, English cellist
Gay-Yee Westerhoff and Welsh lasses Eos (pronounced Ay-os, meaning ‘nightingale') and Tania Davis on violin and
viola respectively, Bond are all in their mid-20$ and graduated from some of the world’s finest music schools. Having played with the likes of Julian Cope, Primal Scream and the Spice Girls, the quartet wisely took a leaf out of the latter’s style book rather than emulating Jules or Bobby, and are currently the hottest thing on four strings.
