GROUP SHOW LOMO SCOTLAND

The Lomo. for the uninitiated. is a tiny instant camera that hails from St Petersburg. Its dinky dimensions and capacity to create colour-saturated. blurry snaps has found many admirers. So revered is the Lomo. that a Viennese society exists for its appreciation. Earlier in the year, The Arches joined forces with the said society. to dispense twenty Lomos to various bon viveurs around the city. and this ‘exhibition' displays their efforts in cheery montage boards in the slinky
new cafe bar.
The snaps are a predictable mixture of people‘s mates. blurred neon lights, close-ups of food. and that old chestnut. self-portraits in the bathroom mirror. Recognisable sights such as the tower blocks at Cowcaddens and the University library locate the shots in the dear green place. but otherwise the images are the same as those taken by excitable youths the world over. If you knew any of these people. there might be a bit more interest involved in looking at their cack- handed compositions. but there is little here to distract you from your latte or spicy chips. Perhaps that‘s the idea. (Sarah Lowndes)
