Traditionally, Sunday is the day of rest. With that in mind, Firehorse has organised a series of decidedly restful sessions to coincide with the West End Festival, featuring a disparate blend of local musicians and DJs. Dubbed More Tea Vicar, the afternoon pre-pre-club has featured everything from live breakbeat funk courtesy of Stonecut to 603 psychedelia from DJ Paul Shields.
‘It's based around music that’s popular, but underground,’ says promoter Louise Prendergast, ‘It’s about the things that are bubbling under, that people are enjoying at the moment. For some people, it’s something nice to do after a night out, and they’re treating it as a chill out session because they’ve been up all night. Then other people have seen it the other way around, and come along to start off their night out.’

Ovna tea rooms. ‘I wanted to do put something on that was on a smaller scale, something cosy,’ says Prendergast, “The tea rooms suit that, and, I think, being what they are, you can get away with things you wouldn’t at other venues. It’s a particularly un-rigid place, It has a haphazardness to it, so things don’t necessarily run to schedule, nothing is ever too defined, and that allows for a bit of improvisation. It’s the sort of place where you forget what time it is, and it just slows

you right down. People can just drink their tea and relax, and wait to see what’s going to happen.’
The last in the initial run of Sunday sessions features a DJ set from Jonnie Wilkes and TWitch, plus live music from newcomers lnnercity Sumo, but it looks likely that More Tea Vicar will become a permanent fixture. ‘So far, we’ve had as many people as you can fit into the space.’ Prendergast says, ‘and if all the events go as well, we’ll have to carry on after the Festival.’ (Jack Mottram)
