Brotzmann turned European free jazz on its head with his Machine (iun album back in the late 60s. and remains a sensational. uncompromising performer. He is joined by Chicago- based drummer Hamid Drake (last seen in Scotland with the late Don Cherry. if memory serves). who brings Arabic and African elements into the mix. Not for the faint-hearted. but it should add tip to incendiary stuff. Part of Stirling‘s 'Le Weekend‘.

Today"s final act at ‘Le Weekend' is a mixture of jazz fused with electronica. avant-classical and minimalist composition from these mainstays on the Chicago underground music scene. Rob Mazttrek (cornet) and Chad Taylor (percussion). Those who remember Mazurek as a hard bop trumpet player in several Edinburgh visits in the mid-90s should not expect anything similar here he has been exploring very different new directions since then.
