RES i THE BRIDIE LECTURES James Bnning, Fri 18 May; Bill Paterson. Fri 22 Jun, RSAMD.
“ firms-i .' A series of talks is taking place at the RSAMD Inspired by the founder of
the Glasgow Cltizens' Theatre and one of Scotland's most eminent playwrights, James Bridle. Author of What Every Woman Knows and The Anatomlst, Bridle was responsible for many of the staples of the 1940’s theatrical repertoire and actors such as Alasdair Sim, Maureen Seattle and Una McLean have all since starred In them.
James Brinlng, the young English director of TAG (Theatre About Glasgow) will lecture about the increasingly contentious topic of the need for a Scottish National Theatre. In the last year, Brinlng has been touring Julius Caesar round primary schools as a discussion tool for children to talk about self government. His production of Stephen Greenhorn’s King Matt is currently touring Scotland.
Bill Paterson, one of the RSAMD's most distinguished alumni, will give the last talk. Paterson, one of Bill Forsyth's favourite actors, especially as the disc Jockey in Comfort 8 Joy, has also starred in Truly, Madly, Deeply and most recently on TV in The Whistle Blower. His career on stage has been as illustrious and versatile including John Byrne’s hilarious Writer's Cramp, Chekhov’s Ivanov and Ariel Dorfman's torture drama Death And The Maiden.
