The first British showing of rarely seen portraits by (ierman-American photographer Josef Breitenbach
( 1896» 1984). As a regular contributor in the l’nited States to magazines 'li'me. l-orliou' and l-lur/n'r's Humor. these rare photographs produced before leaving littrope in 1941 have remained hidden until his death and include images of lainous artists and writers who sat for him in the 1930s.
Thomas Carlyle: A Hero Of His Time l'ntil Sttn 3 Jttn. An exhibition dedicated to the Scottish historian. social commentator and essayist. Thomas (‘arlyle (1795 4881) whose theories about the public's need for heroes inspired the establishment of the National Portrait Galleries in London and lidinburgh.
