Supergirly have sold out more nights at the Edinburgh Fringe than most stand-ups have had hot dinners. Their fans include Madonna, Jennifer Saunders and last but not least Bananarama. They even did a private performance round Elton John’s pad to an allstar audience made up of the Spice Girls, Michael Douglas and Mick Jagger no less.

But what is it that they actually do to garner all this attention from the rich and famous? Well Louise McClatchy and Jai Simeone take a selection of today’s poptastic hits and add their own ‘unique’ lyrics. Musical masterworks from the likes of Ricky Martin, S Club 7 and Britney all get a comedy reworking. In fact, the only song they would never touch is ‘Candle In The Wind’ for, as Louise puts it, ‘obvious reasons’.

The Aussie duo went down a storm at the Fringe, which lead to a spot on BBC Saturday morning show Live & Kicking. Making the transition from saucy stage show to kids TV proved to be fairly easy: ‘We are a bit cartoony anyway; the stuff we wear and the way we act and pull faces. We are very

childish,’ admits Louise.

But as they become more famous, with a sitcom on the way, they are starting to mix with the stars they playfully ridicule. So has anyone been offended? ‘Steps didn’t want to do a sketch with us,’ the blonde comedian confesses, but ‘a lot of them have been going “when are you doing my song?” and get really narky that we aren’t doing their stuff yet.’
