The best clubs in Glasgow this fortnight
Goodfoot When the glorified school gym that was The Bedsit closed its doors, the temporary loss of Goodfoot was like losing a particularly soulful limb, so thank goodness they’ve pitched up at the admirably peculiar Riverside in a new monthly slot. Expect more obscure Northern stompers, mod jazz cuts and a healthy dose of the funk. The Riverside C/ub, Fri 2 Feb.
Subculture One of the best nightclubs in Scotland welcomes the man behind one of the best nightclubs in the North of England, Back To Basics' Ralph Lawson, as part of the 20/20 Vision World Tour. Substitute Venue, Sat 27 Jan.
Gymnastique Disco funk punk breakbeat meets old school electro thanks to The High Fidelity’s Sean Dickson. As if that wasn’t enough, Felix and Heffler in the Vic Bar run the only 'night in Glasgow devoted to Miami Bass: the genre that combines lyrical slackness that would make the most un-PC of dancehall toasters blush and low—end pulsing that sucks the air out of your lungs. Cool. Glasgow School of Art, Fri 79 Jan.
Midi Hi Fi Resident Noj warms up the kids with funky breakbeat adventures before special guest and one-time Scratch Pervert First Rate cuts, flares and beat-juggles away as only he can. Downstairs, the Stiletto spin a wilfully odd combination of danceable tunes. G/asgow School of Art, Fri 26 Jan.
Pressure One of these months Pressure are going to forget to book a brace of the best DJs in the world, and Stuart & Orde will lose their records in a freak gardening accident — there's no way a club can be this good every single month. This time they’re spoiling you with Derrick Carter, Andy Weatherall (pictured), Dario (Red Melon) and Edinburgh’s finest George T finally makes his debut in the Pressure box. Arches, Fri 26 Jan.
