Unflinching in their devout dedication to a feisty mix of hardcore techno. filthy acid, hard trance and gabba, Resistance have gathered quite a reputation after only five months of their residency at The Venue. James Smart gets the lowdown.
Resistance? Oh I know, like ‘Rene, eet
eex I, Michelle of zee Resistance' - Allo Allo was great. Never understood why
that fat bloke got all the birds. though. Not that one you fool, we're talking about Twisted and Discharge‘s hardcore shebang at The Venue, five months old and about to start putting on two parties a month.
Hardcore? Wicked! I know the score. 'Charley Says' and all that. Erm, no. ’lt's not just hardcore,’ says promoter and DJ Al Twisted. ’We play all sorts of hard electronic music, gabba, breakbeat, techno even trance, tied together by the fact that it's hardcore in definition. We make sure that on any one night it goes right across the whole spectrum and that everyone has their own unique style. But there's no happy hardcore or cheese.’
Fair enough. So what kind of people head along? ‘We’ve got a good crowd of people. Everyone's well up for it. A lot of people have been into the scene for a while, plus the local crowd are
getting into it. And because there aren't
that many nights like it people come from all over,‘ explains Al. Buses run from Dundee, Falkirk, Glasgow, Hamilton, the North of England and Wales.
Who do they come all this way to see then? Current residents are Al Twisted and Smurf. Friday 3 November sees the visit of hip hop orientated hardcore techno DJ Simon Underground (pictured), plus Scott Brown, better known as Q-Tex, who‘ll be spinning nu- skool gabba. Future guests will include 015 from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the States and they‘ll all be keeping the pulses racing with sets of 140-200bpm.
That's a bit weak, Isn't it? Dosen‘t Moby have a record called 1000bpm? Yeah, but that is the fastest piece of music ever recorded and it sounds shit.
