Edinburgh
I Masquenada Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. Midnight. £5. A Latin-infused jazz selection from these former Cafe Graffiti regulars, including Chimp of Salsa Celtica fame on percussion and Colin Steele on trumpet. You will notice the Jazz Joint is now back at full strength, after a short quiet(ish) period, with eight jazz shows a week as Assembly Direct lend their support to this excellent venue.
I Jim Mullen Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 8.30pm. £8.50. Legendary Glasgow-born jazz-rock guitarist Jim Mullen is set to grace Jazz Joint with his new organ trio. Expect a top notch night of jazz, rock and the blues.

I Swing 2000 Cafe Hub, Castlehill, Royal Mile, 473 2067. 7.30pm. £25 (£22 in advance) price includes dinner. A swinging selection from the holders of Edinburgh’s longest-running pub residency, featuring Dick Lee on clarinet and sax, Roy Percy on bass and double guitars from John Russell and Phil Adams.
I Paul Harrison Trio Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 8.30pm. £5. Modern jazz from keyboardist Harrison, who is already making major waves in jazz circles despite his modest years. He is joined by other talents from the new school in the form of bassist Mario Caribe and drummer Paddy Flaherty.

I High Heel Sneakers Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 8.30pm. £5 (£4). This five-piece, fronted by west coast trumpeter Lorne Cowieson, dip into the Blue Note vault for a selection of funk and groove numbers. Also features alto sax soloist of the highest order Paul Towndrow.

I Kenny Paterson Jazz Joint, 8 Morrison Street, 538 7385. 8.30pm. £5. A new talent on the Scottish jazz scene, Paterson provides smooth soul and swing vocals.
I The Blackbyrds La Belle Angele, Hastie’s Close, 225 7536. 10.30pm—3am. £10. Legendary Detroit jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd and his full original line-up make a rare appearance in Scotland. At the forefront of acid jazz and funk throughout the 705, this is an excellent opportunity to catch some masters of the art strutting their funky stuff.

I The Hotline Band The Waterfront, 1c Dock Place, 554 7427. 8pm. Free. Part of the Budweiser Budvar Jazz Tour. This Czech band are flying in for their first ever UK gigs. Sometime members of the Veleband who performed at the Edinburgh lntemational Jazz Festival, they are lead by Michael Henja, and as jazz is an essential part of Czech culture we should be treated to some quality sounds. Expect funk, jazz, traditional Czech food and of course Czech beer in the shape of Budweiser Budvar.
