Scotland’s most creative design teams and sited round the grounds of the house as part of Art Park 2000, co-ordinated by House For An Art Lover. Designers include Page & Park, McGum Ltd, Pictures on the Wall, VK&C, Jules 0055, Trevor Leat/Alex Rigg. One Foot Taller, Graven Images, Timorous Beasties, Ben Woodeson and Stewart Kerr.

Annual Art Competition For Young People Until Sun 29 Oct. A display of this year’s medal winning entries featuring paintings and drawings inspired by the collections at Glasgow Museums. Lewis Lyons Bequest Until Mon 20 Nov. An exhibition dedicated to the memory of Julius Lewis Lyons, a keen art collector and friend of Glasgow museums from the 1940s until his death last year. Lewis Lyons gave on long term loan to the gallery a variety of items including Scottish silver, Old Master drawings, late medieval wood carvings. Egyptian antiquities and much more.

St Petersburg Artistic Project 2000 Until Sun 15 Oct. St Petersburg was once the centre of cultural and artistic life in the 18th and 19th centuries. For the first time in Scotland, six Russian artists show new work revealing modern interpretations of the city’s art and culture.

Open Your Eyes Until Fri 29 Sep. Visual Arts Scotland have developed a dedicated arts education programme, working initially with primary schools. Children visited the Visual Arts Annual Show at the Royal Scottish Academy and responded creatively. The result is a vibrant selection of artworks.

Photographs By Snowdon: A Retrospective Until Sat 30 Sep. The City Art Centre is the first gallery outside London to stage this major retrospective of photographs by Lord Snowdon. Born Anthony Charles Robert Armstrong- Jones in 1930, he is best known for his portrait photography. Working for Vogue, Vanity Fair and Life, he also produced documentary work for The Sunday Times. Famous faces in the show include the first 1957 official portrait of the Queen, Francis Bacon, Lucien Freud, David Hockney and John Bellany.

Alphonse Mucha - Master Of Art Nouveau Until Sat 30 Sep. A major retrospective of the work of Czech artist Alphonse Mucha (1860—1939) whose work epitomised the Art Nouveau movement. The exhibition includes pastels, oils, drawings, jewellery and photography as well as decorative panels and poster art.

Richard Demarco - 70/2000: The Road To Meikle Seggie Until Sat 30 Sep. A celebration of the career of Edinburgh-based artist Richard Demarco on his 70th birthday. His career as a gallery director, entrepreneur and philosopher is illustrated with photographs from the Demarco Archive along with the work of over 70 artists including Joseph Beuys, Ian Hamilton Finlay and David Mach.

Sea Change Until Sat 30 Sep. Paintings by William McTaggart (1835—1910) and John Bellany (bl942), drawn from the City of Edinburgh’s fine art collection. Both artists, although separated by 100 years, share a fascination with the sea.

Copenhagen's New Town Sat 30 Sep—Fri 27 Oct. Danish architectural photographer Jens Lindhe presents an exhibition of photographs of the busy district of Frederiksstaden in Copenhagen, which like Edinburgh’s New Town, was created in the middle of the 18th century.

Edinburgh is the only European venue to stage this remarkable exhibition of some 70 major works by the eccentric surrealist Spanish painter, Salvador Dali. Inspired by dreams, hallucinations and other unconscious forces, the exhibition concentrates on his lifelong fascination with illusion, visual perception and distortion, paying particular attention to Dali’s technique of creating ‘double- images’.
