Set in the beautiful grounds of Pollok Country Park lies the well-known and popular Pollok House. Originally the home of the Stirling Maxwell family since the 18th century, the house has been maintained and looked after ever since it was gifted in 1966 by Sir John Stirling Maxwell’s daughter, Mrs Anne Maxwell Macdonald, to the City of Glasgow. The house was run by the Council for many years, but is now in the capable hands of The National Trust for Scotland who are giving it their own style of care and attention and transforming it back to its country house origins. It contains many of the original pieces from the family including paintings by William Blake, Goya and El Greco as well as ornaments and furniture from the Edwardian period, and these are displayed in the various rooms throughout the house. The full tour will take you on a journey over the three floors of the house, starting on the first floor where you can find the music room, drawing room, business room, cedar room and the incredible dining room, where you can almost picture a busy dinner party taking place at a long, food-laden table. Paintings are hung on the stairs as you make your way up to the second floor. A painting of a baby hanging above the fireplace at the top is certainly a talking point for the many visitors. The main bedroom and dressing room are also on this floor along with a display room. It is then downstairs to the basement where you will discover the servants quarters with the gun room and the
