NEW NIGHT

Digital 8: The Edge present Rotation

Edinburgh: The Venue (three floors), Sat 16 Sep

As we reach the tail end of the summer season, those returning from having it large in the Med’s party playgrounds are looking once again to their home turf for quality clubbing. Wise to these expectations, J Cammera, resident at techno night Digital and one of the men behind new venture Rotation, is keen to capitalise on the opportune timing. ’September or October is really the best time of year for clubbing.’ he says. ’You also get a lot of students coming to

Edinburgh for the first time and checking out the scene. So it should work in our

favour.’

Digital celebrates its first birthday on Sat 16 Sep by fusing with deep to progressive house night The Edge, which was squeezed out of the Vaults last year when Logic expanded to become bi-monthly. The new night, Rotation, will run monthly and feature both clubs running side by side. Sean Pearson, DJ and promoter of The Edge, explains the thinking behind the venture. 'When you’ve

got three people working behind the same production, the third being Digital’s

DJ Mitchell, it's going to be that much better because you've got a combination

of those three personalities.’

Also in Rotation's favour is its selection of guests. Sat 16 Sep sees techno whiz and famous Belgian CJ Bolland headline the main floor, while future visits from Colin Dale and Nicky Holloway (Sat 14 Oct), and DJ Funk should keep the pulses

racing. J Cammera is unsurprisingly enthusiastic about the line-up. ’A lot of clubs

would consider themselves lucky to get just one of these guys,’ he says, ’so to

get loads is very cool.’

And the boys aren’t worried about the dilution of either club's vibe. On the contrary, they see the fusion as ably keeping the options open for Edinburgh clubbers. ’Any members of Rotation will get on the mailing list for both clubs,’ explains Sean. ’That’s going to encourage mixing because while the Digital regulars will tend to prefer techno they can go into The Edge for house and vice versa.’ (James Smart)
