I Virunga at Brel. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. A top selection of tunes with a world bias, including soca, Latin dance, African and reggae.

I 1210 at Babaza. 8pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Top-notch house, garage and trance from Ian Thompson and David Gilmore, renowned for keeping the crowd on their toes and dropping the odd surprise track. In a bid to encourage new talent, the residents step down from 8—11pm, turning over the Technics to up-and-coming DJs. Call the club on 204 0101 for details of how to participate.
I Bennet’s at Bennet’s. 11pm—3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Shawn delivers a commercial dance mix in the main room, while Annie supplies 705 and 805 hits at the premier gay venue.
I Bug-A-Boo at The Velvet Rooms. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. John Lyons, Martin Hesketh and James Fullerton take it in turns to provide the R&B and soul selections.
I Casino Royale at The Apartment. 11pm—3am. £4. Weekly. Bossanova beats, Hammond grooves, soundtracks and loungecore from your hosts Frankie Savaloy and Kirk St Moritz. Additional entertainment value added by the Bedazzled comedy collective and Monty Cantsin of Beat Room fame.

I The Infesticons at The Arches. 9pm. £8 (£7 advance). 14 Sep only. Hip hop meets performance poetry as Mike Ladd and his crew bring the message to the masses through their Ninja Tune release Gun Hill Road.
I Loose Joints at The 13th Note Club. 11pm—3am. £2. Weekly. Residents (eyebee) and (deecee) have shifted the old Booty Jam up a gear with a new concept night, just like a 705 album — the concept being to play a broad mix of dancefloor classics without overdoing the turntable techniques, instead concentrating on the songs themselves. I Media Student Night at Media. 11pm—3am. £1 with matric card; £3 otherwise. Weekly. The new groovy 70s and 805 Media lays down the red carpet to students.
I MFI at Universe (Coatbridge). 11pm—2.30am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Big telly man Ewan MacLeod and DJ Bob with a disco-tinged selection of house old and new. .
I Pimp at Planet Peach. 11pm—3am. £4. Weekly. Steve Gaston pumps out the funkiest disco and lightens the blend with the occasional kitsch classic.
I Polo For Me at The P010 Lounge. 10pm—1am. Free. Weekly. You, the lucky punter, take the helm tonight, as request cards are available over the bar and in the booth.
I Rhythm And Blues at Life. 10pm—3am. £5. Weekly. One of the city’s finest R&B nights with residents Paul Traynor, Naeem and Stuart McCallum. I Skint at The Cathouse. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Tough chemical breaks and beats, rock and indie for a studenty crowd. I Skycop at Skybar (Archaos). 11.45pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. The posh bit of Archaos thrills to the deep house stylings of Ryan Kerr, as the regular student night packs them in downstairs.

Fantastic night featuring live funk action from Elevation Trio in the bar and weekly residents Bob Peck and Charlie lnman slamming out their trademark block party hip hop, funk and breaks. I Rumble at The Garage. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Absolutely crackers student night, stuffed to the gunnels every time with kids sharking to the sounds of chart hits, indie favourites and lowbrow house.
I Wired at Destiny. 10pm—3am. £2 before 11pm; £3 after. Weekly. Casual night at the wrought-iron exhibition-cum- club, with a dancier music policy. This is the only time when denim and trainers are acceptable apparel here, so you don’t have to iron your Ben Sherman.

I Tap-MOI-La at The Tap. 9pm—midnight. Weekly. A new pre-club from, in their words, ‘just two more blokes playing their records in a pub.’ Fortunately Hush Puppy of Divine fame and Chris ‘Beans’ Geddes (he’s in some indie band, apparently) have corking collections taking in 60s pop, Wigan-centric soul, mod jazz and Latin grooves.

Alaska Opening Weekend Alaska reopens this fortnight with Slam in charge of the music policy. To celebrate the hand-over, Relief moves across town for their new weekly residency, with residents Silicone Soul joined by H Foundation and Pete Moss of Oldham Records. Sat night sees Freelance Science return after a bit of a break, and Stuart & Orde’s efforts will be augmented by Master H and Lawrence Hughes. Arrive early to avoid disappointment. Colours If you ask small children or old ladies to name a DJ, chances are this is the one they'll pick. He’s equally at home with inventing speed garage (as they used to call it), block part breaks and good old four four in all its forms. That’s right, Armand Van Helden (pictured above) is coming to town, along with DJ Heaven and the Colours residents. The Arches, Sat 9 Sep.
Dr No's Dancehall Scorchin’ ska ’n’ soul from this Edinburgh staple that tonight brings the legend behind the ska revival and Two Tone records, Jerry Dammers, to town. No doubt this will be a trip down memory lane for Dammers, who wrote Ghost Town after a gig The Specials played in Glasgow in the late 705. Nice n’ Sleazy, Sun 70 Sep.
L.I.V.E After the success of their one- off party over the summer, the Live lnteraudio Visual Entertainment chaps return with the launch of a monthly residency. Alongside the visual treats, there’s live drum & bass from Morphy, live hip hop from Freestyle-Master and a whole host of breaks, beats and bass DJs across both floors. Traxx Residents Simon Cordiner and Derek Smith welcome Fresh and Low for some deep house support in the back room, while special guest Lawrence Hughes helps out in the main room. There’s even a bus from Cottiers and the Cul de Sac, so you don't have to walk for miles to enjoy the across-the-board house. The Soundhaus, Sat 76 Sep.
