I Bounty at Q. 5pm—lam. Free. Weekly. Billy Milligan is at the helm of this new night, featuring party tunes across the genres, from R628 to club classics.

I Deejays In Disguise at The Variety Bar. 8pm—close. Free. Weekly. The Knucklehead crew take a breather from their usual hectic style and concentrate on the dubbier end of the techno spectrum.

I Halt Bar DJ Competition at The Halt Bar. Free. 24 Aug only. The Halt is running a second instalment of their popular DJ comp. The last of the heats takes place on 24 Aug with the final set for 8 Sep. The judges are influential types, including Lawrence Ilughes, Silicone Soul, DJ Kushi, Scott Brown and Billy Kilkie from 23rd Precinct. Last year's winners found themselves much in demand, so aspiring jockeys should call Simon on 564 1527 to book a place in the heats.

I Tunnel Thursdays at The Tunnel. 11pm—3am. £4 (£3). Weekly. Tunnel regulars Kevin McFarlane and Scott Mackay, plus Lisa Littlewood in Room Two, spin house for a dressed-up crowd of students.

I Upfront at The Asylum. 10pm—3am. £1 (free to CUSU members). Weekly. Eddie Tonner and Scott Mochar with quality house and trance.

I The Wha? at The 13th Note Club. 9pm—23m. £4. 24 Aug. Mt nthiy. The Muddy Pedals crew with their unique blend of breaks.

I Yang at Yang. 11pm-3am. Free before midnight; £3 (£2) after. Weekly. Fantastic night featuring live funk action from Elevation Trio in the bar and weekly residents Bob Peck and Charlie Inman slamming out their trademark block party hip hop, funk and breaks. Room Three features a rotating selection of DJ talent, including techno crew Mystec Beatz on the third Friday of the month.

I Rumble at The Garage. 11pm—3am. £4 (£2). Weekly. Absolutely crackers student night, stuffed to the gunnels every time with kids sharking to the sounds of chart hits, indie favourites and lowbrow house.

I Wired at Destiny. lOpm—3am. £2 before 11pm; £3 after. Weekly. Casual night at the wrought-iron exhibition-cum- club, with a dancier music policy. This is the only time when denim and trainers are acceptable apparel here, so you don’t have to iron your Ben Sherman.

I Radar at The Cross Bar. 8pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Wiggy selection of esoteric dub and progressive techno.

I Russell's at Russell’s. 6pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. DJ Yaw kicks out the best R&B, hip hop and swingbeat.

I Soaterama at Nice ‘n’ Sleazy (ground floor). 8pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. An across-the-board blend with an emphasis on the unexpected, from punk to drum & bass.

I Stateside Sounds at The State Bar. 4-7pm. Free. Weekly. Paul Shields selects alt.country favourites, rock classics and blues cuts.

I Syntax at Bar Jedi. 9pm—midnight. Free. Weekly. Nik Craig of Syntax is joined by DJ Trace (Maddog) for a night of chilled-out electro, filter-heavy disco and techy house.

I The Ark at The Tunnel. 10.3(me—3am. £7 (£5). Weekly. The mighty triumvirate of Scott Mackay, Michael Kilkie and Zammo keep the crowd on their toes with top quality hard house, while Simon Foy kicks out smooth vocal house and garage in the back room.

The best clubs this fortnight

Colours and Inside Out take turns to

bring you the biggest line-up this side of Ibiza. Friday night sees Colours with Darren Mackie, Ian 'Boney' Clarke, Crosby, Jon Mancini, Guy Ornadel and Paul Oakenfold. On Saturday night, Inside Out residents Simon Foy, Michael Kilkie and Zammo have rounded up Mauro Picotto, Scott Bond, Lisa Loud, Sister Bliss (pictured), and the rather splendid Jon Pleased Wimmin. Hi Karate The monthly mini-Karate returns to the intimate environs of The Vic Bar. This time, the weighty ragga and bass-breaks antics of Divine and MacMillan are set to be supplemented by DJ Skye, a man known for his uncanny knack of tracing the ultimate in obscurantist break snippets and generally off-kilter selections. Miss Moneypenny's The Brummie sequin posse hit Glasgow for their fabby combination of serious glammage and hard ’n' funky house tunes, with Tom Wainwright joining the residents. GI, Sat2 Sep.

Ouch presents Shindig Local funk- house-soul-folk-ragga combo Engine play a gig, then engage, live remix style, in a battle of wits with Dls Chris Lamb and Kev Dillon. The Riverside Club, Sat 2 Sep.

The Sunday Social After taking a break for August, the Social returns with it‘s heady brew of visuals, live music Dls and tasty croissants. This month is a bit of a live extravaganza. Tony Allen And Afro-Beat 2000 headline, fusing western techno and hip hop with the Afro sound they helped originate. Blue States is also set to appear, plus improv electronica from Hannas Barber. DJ support is from Sidewinder, with visual manipulations by VJ duo Overlap. The Arches, Sun 3 Sep.

Test The heftiest slice of packaged depravity yet. The Vic Bar features Paul Brown and Phil Murray (Bedlam) plus Leon Devlan cruising between scratched-up electro and the abstract end of the techno spectrum. Upstairs, there is, to quote 2 Unlimited, ’techno, techno, techno, techno' from Test residents Shandy and Steve Glencross, guest Marcin Czubala and a live appearance from Ibrahim Alfa.
