The best clubs this fortnight
Electric Bogey The Jengaheads' break and beat showcase seems to be going from strength to strength, and their latest guest should keep up the momentum. Adam Freeland (pictured) welds together corking sets of chrome-plated futuristic breakbeats using just three decks, a sampler, banks of effects machinery and his bare hands. Planet Peach, Fri 78 Aug.
Stiletto If you’re in the market for something a bit different, this is the pre-club for you. Anna, Lynn and Sadie spin a pretty odd selection, taking in punky classics, classy hip hop, mildly nostalgic 805 hits and whatever else takes their fancy. And that’s not all, the dingy environs of the 'Note basement go pretty, with oddments hanging from the ceiling and video art pieces screened on the walls to add to the atmos. 13th Note Cafe, Fri 78 Aug.
Subculture This week Harri and Domenic are joined by the succinctly monikered l2 and Diz. The former is probably better known to Subbers as Joshua, who releases a wealth of top house on Prescription. Diz, meanwhile is new to the 'Culture, but a familiar face on the Chicago circuit. Planet Peach, Sat 19Aug.
Kersland Sound System A fairly rare live outing for the West End’s finest combiners of dub, techno, drum & bass and general atmospherics. The party is in celebration of the group's new long player The Sleeper Service. Glasgow School of Art, Fri 78 Aug.
Fruitfly Fisher and Price (that's their real names, fact fans) continue to go from strength to strength at the hard, but gloriously uplifting game that is their mixed-up club night. The pair are joined by Ibizan stalwart Pete Doyle, and Martin Barrie does his garage thing in the back room. The Arches, Sat 19 Aug.
Optimo It’s not the first time the ’Timo has appeared in the Hitlist, but, almost unbelievably, Wilkes, Twitch and their gender-confused electronical chum Roland keep getting better. Expect the usual messy mish mash of doom-laden electro, nasty punk, eighteez funk and Motown junk. Planet Peach, Sun 20 Aug.
17-24 Aug 2000 THE net 31
