Customer relations are crucial to every successful business and clubbing is no exception. After extensive research and due consideration, the promoter of hard house night Luvely, George Paterson, is giving Edinburgh's clubbers exactly what they want. Namely Luvely but with a lighter, funkier music policy. When Luvely arrived on the Edinburgh club scene four years ago, the crowds went wild for the glammed-up, gay-friendly atmosphere. Paterson's S.A. salon came down to create wild styles for the dancefloor, and massage was laid on to limber the clubbers up for the night. Care was, and still is, taken to ensure a good balance between gay and straight clubbers so that everyone at the club feels comfortable and not in the minority.
Luvely Lite will retain all of these winning features but will be something of a first for Wilkie House in that the main room will showcase the lighter, more vocal side of house and the backroom will be dedicated to hard house. This reversal will hopefully open the Luvely experience to a much wider audience. As Paterson explains: 'Luvely Lite will be for the people out there who really like the vibe of Luvely but have trouble getting into the music because it's too
hard for them'.
The launch party 'White Lite‘ will continue the theme policy of Luvely, with clubbers given priority entry if they dress in the spirit of the Balearic Isles (i.e. anything white or revealing). Big-name DJs aren't generally favoured by the club: 'The last thing we want is a DJ that brings a crowd', explains Paterson, ‘because we've got that side of things covered already'. As an exception though, tonight’s event will see Mark Bambach, of Home and Heaven, joining the resident DJs John Edwards and Tommy K. (Catherine Bromley)
