ALL-DAYER
Come Down Glasgow: Slave, Sun 2 Jul.
Clubbing on the west coast has always tended to be a limited affair. This is not, of course, in terms of the music on offer, or the quality of the venues, but because draconian licensing laws have clubbers turfed
out onto the streets almost as soon as
they’re in their stride, with nowhere
to go until ten the next night. In a bid
to extend the opportunities for
hedonism, Slave have launched Come Down, an all day affair for those who have trouble, erm, coming down after
a night on the tiles. ’The idea for an all-dayer came
about because of Trade,’ explains promoter and club owner Mary Kiani. ‘Everyone would end up going on to a party after the club — usually at my house. So I thought, “Hang on, I’ve got an empty club just sitting there”, so we thought we might as well open it up. It's not a new idea, though, I’ve come across places on my travels, like Australia, where day clubs are pretty
common.’
The music policy, fortunately perhaps, is not the unstoppable thump of hard beats, but a mix of lighter, Chicago-tinged house from Slave residents Robin Boner and Mick P, plus Trade Lite stalwart Ken Ferguson, all augmented by live bongo abuse from Andy Horn. ’So far, the days have been a bit varied,‘ continues Kiani. 'At the first one everyone was outside on the steps like something out of Fame, enjoying the sun, but last time the dance-floor was pretty packed until seven at night, then we just kept on going right through ’till three the next morning.’
So, whether you want to relax and take advantage of the free ice cream and cheap booze, or simply extend your Saturday night right through to Monday morning, Come Down is the place to go. (Jack Mottram)

I T.I.T. at Trash. 10.30pm—3am. £3 (£2). Weekly. Rory Weller with hands-in-the- air, foot-stomping house and trance, plus Graham churning out the student sounds in room two.
I Yang at Yang. 11pm—3am. Free before midnight; £3 after. Weekly. Now you can experience the Northern soul and funk grooves of Gerry Love (Teenage Fanclub) and Chris Geddes (Belle And Sebastian) every week. Live bands appear on an ad hoc basis upstairs.
