Edinburgh People’s Theatre present Michael Palin’s tale of an old curmudgeon who launches himself into a second adolescence. in true Palin style, the play is full of wit and whimsy, and although the company may be amateur, they‘re one of the best in Scotland.

The Mill On The Floss Until Fri 26 May. 7.30pm. £5 (£3). Helen Edmundson’s adaptation of George Eliot’s rural novel gets a fresh new look from final year acting students at Queen Margaret University College.

From his humble beginnings at Sun Records, through the heady days of Las Vegas to his ultimate burger-fuelled demise, this show takes you on a musical journey through the life of the king of rock ‘n’ roll. Going County Down: Una McLean and Russell Hunter in Lovers at the Royal Lyceum
A Clockwork Orange Wed 31 May-Sat 3 Jun. 7.30pm.£6.50—£14(£4.50—£11). Anthony Burgess' book caused controversy in both its written and film forms, and Northern Stage’s theatre version is equally uncompromising. Using projected film and a pounding soundtrack of Beethoven and house music, the show contains scenes of violence which may disturb the more delicate amongst you. See preview.

£6.50—£15(£4.50—£12). It’s small screen central at the King’s this week, with Eastenders’ Sophie Lawrence, David Griffin from Keeping Up Appearances, and stalwart actresses Barbara Murray and Susan Penhaligon sleuthing it up in this Agatha Christie classic.
