The best gigs this

ROCK/POP The Dandy Warhols Spunky, funky, sex, drugs, rock ’n' roll action from a band fronted by a bloke called Courtney and starring a keyboard player with a penchant for streaking while playing. For once, a band who are a live spectacle also have good tunes. Glasgow: Garage, Sun 4 Jun; Edinburgh: the Liquid Room, Mon 5 Jun.

Muse They have been declared better than Radiohead in the NME, but don't let that put you off. Their Thom Yorke plays Nirvana-isms on vinyl may still be steadying on their brittle, Bambi like legs, but live, they’re verging on fantastsic. Glasgow: The Garage, Fri 2 Jun.

ELECTRONIC

Ericsson@Homelands The best massed line up of popular dance acts ever seen in a field in deepest Ayrshire. Public Enemy, David Holmes, Moby, Leftfield, Paul Oakenfold, Groove Armada, Reprazent, Norman Jay, Cajmere, Scratch Perverts, DJ Sneak and Joey Beltram all on the one day. They’re spoiling you surely? Straid Farm, New Cumnock, Sat 3 Jun.

Talvin Singh Anokha head honcho and Mercury Music Prize winner Singh, plays a one-off live show of his pioneering mix of dance electronics and traditional Asian sounds.G/asgow: The Arches, Mon 29 May.

EXPERIMENTAL

Le Weekend Experimental music is admittedly not everyone’s bag, but anyone keen on broadening their musical horizons could do worse than take a trip up to Stirling for the likes of Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo and free jazz drummer William Hooker or Japan's experimental pop visionary Haco and her band, Hoahio. Stirling: The Cowane Centre, Fri 26—Mon 29 May.

JAZZ

William Cepeda's Afro-Rican Jazz This Puerto Rican trombonist takes the rich tones and beats from his native land and blends it with jazz, funk and R88 resulting in an addictive Latin cocktail. His debut Scottish live tour sees him front his own eight-piece band. Glasgow: The Arches, Thu 25 May; Edinburgh: The Queen’s Hall, Fri 26 May.
