The resulting film is a fast-moving thrillfest featuring bongo-beating beatniks, a great rockabilly soundtrack and explosive destruction on a grand scale. Kevin 8: Perry Go Large (15) ** (Ed Bye. UK. 2000) Harry linfield. Kathy Burke. Laura Fraser. 82 mins. This big- screen spin-off for one of the sketches from TV's Hurry Ifnjielrlsiml Chums follows its two teenage characters on a quest to lose their virginity and become top DJs. The key influence here is the Curry ()Il series. so prepare yourself for a stream of erection. urinating and vomiting gags. There are some enjoyable performances. but there's a nagging sense that. with this predictable satire, [infield and chums are milking a cash-cow. General release.
Kundun (15) *tit (Martin Scorsese. US. 1997) 1-10 mins. Scorsese‘s biography of the fourteenth Dalai Lama is also a painstaking record of a culture close to extinction. The beauty of Tibet anJ gentle nature of the people is disrupted by invasion by China. but the Dalai Lama remains true to the ideal of non-violence. A highly cinematic. though heavily wrought film. Kimtlun also features a pulsating music score by Philip Glass. The first hour. while beautiful to watch. does seem to pass very slowly. but. by the end. it has a curious calming energy all of its own. Edinburgh: Cameo.

Local sheriff. game warden. scientist and hunter team tip to kill it. Plenty of extras get iiiiinched. Doesn't sound particularly appetising — we've seen it all before in Jam. :1 lligulor. Pint/mu. etc. — except Lake Placid has the smartest. funniest dialogue you're likely to hear all year: "The sooner we catch this thing. Sheriff. the sooner you cart get back to sleeping with your sister.' Goes for cheap belly laughs and gets ‘cm every time. lidinburgh: Cameo.
