Comprising mainly classical musicians, this chamber group refuse to stay within the boundaries of the genre’s repertoire, preferring to venture out into the worlds ofjazz, rock and world music. Signings of Robert Fripp’s DGM label, Mr McFall’s serve up an exciting blend of Frank Zappa, Edward McGuire, Richard Thompson, Ray Davies, Shostakovitch and Astor Piazolla.

As the year 2000 gets into full flow, the BBC SSO take a look back at the dawn of the previous century in their three-concert series 1900 Birth ofa Century. An era of much artistic and cultural change, the concerts reflect the coming together of traditional and modern which took place at that time, with Debussy’s Nocturnes and Mahler’s Symphony No 4 on the bill for Concert 3. Conductor lon Marin is at the baton, and Canadian soprano Valdine Anderson is the soloist.
