FRIDAY 5 Glasgow I Steps and Northern Line SECC, Finnieston Quay, 287 7777. 7.30pm. £17.50 plus booking fee. Single seats only left at time of going to press. One of the better manufactured pop acts which, in these sorry post-Take That days, is not saying much. Did anyone catch H trying to be profound and incisive on Jo Whiley? Snigger. I Youssou N'Dour Old Fruitmarket, Albion Street, 287 5511. 7.30pm. £18.50/£16.50 plus booking fee. A world music icon who had a major international crossover hit collaborating with Neneh Cherry on ‘Seven Seconds’. Please note change of venue. I James Taylor Quartet Glasgow School Of Art, Renfrew Street, 332 0691. £10 (£8). Strap on your boogie shoes for JTQ’s acid jazz and Hammond organ spectacular. I Bap Kennedy, Peter Bruntnell and Remedy King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, St Vincent Street, 221 5279. 8.30pm. £7 plus booking fee. Kennedy was previously a member of Irish epic roots rockers Energy Orchard and has worked with Steve Earle and Nanci Griffiths. Last year he released an album of Hank Williams covers but now has an album of original material to promote. He worked on Loner Street with Herbie Flowers, the man responsible for the bassline of ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ but also, regrettably, for Clive Dunn’s ‘Grandad’. I Jim O'Rourke and Loren Mazzacane Conners The 13th Note Club, Clyde Street, 243 2177. 8pm. £8 (advance), £9 (door). Tickets from the club, Missing Records, Wellington Street and Virgin, Buchanan Street. Domino Records tour featuring two musicians who have been working together in Ireland of late. O’Rourke’s CV is a catalogue of collaborations with underground gurus such as Tortoise, Stereolab and Sonic Youth. Last year’s solo album Eureka was a treasure.
