After a spate of guests to kickstart this club, it’s time for residents Daryl G and Joseph Malik to show their talent. The music will cut right across the spectrum: world, hip hop, deep house, jazz, drum & bass, Afro; it’ll all be there. As it should be.
I The Jazz Joint at The Jazz Joint. 10pm—3am. £5-£7. Weekly. 1 Apr is Nu Spirit (see separate entry), while the El Cometa All Stars guest on 8 Apr, with DJ support from Lewis, Fawaz and Sli Si on rotation.
I Joy at Wilkie House. 10.30pm—3am. £10 (£7). 1 Apr. Monthly. It’s been running so long it’s officially an insitution, and it’s good to know that Maggie & Alan still lay on the pumping house to trance and techno in the main room. The crowd’s a little more laid-back than you would expect on a Sat night, but still absolutely mad. Head through the back to Trendy Wendy and Sally
Findlay ’5 party for some house, disco, chart and whatever else they find in their record boxes.
I Jungle Magic at the Liquid Room. 10.30pm—3am. £TBC 8 Apr. Monthly. A night of drum & bass from residents Kid and Tania Swift who are joined by,Nicky Blackmarket and MC Bassman.

Eros/Elite
Fountainpark Complex, Edinburgh
- ’lt's something different. I just moved to Edinburgh and I didn't know where to go out. Everyone was saying Revolution, but this new place opened and because so
many people are still trying it out, you get
a really mixed crowd. It’s an older crowd that comes here, but there's still plenty of young ones here as well with Eros next door. The difference between Eros and Elite is like different planets. It depends on your personality and what music you like. I like dancing, but my boyfriend loves it in here (Elite). | always came to Eros but went to Elite and it was like Rick Astley and Bananarama and I thought "this is alright”, but then that's me . . . give me Bing Crosby and I’ll dance along! - 'lt's great with the diner . . . I tried to get served there the first time l came in thinking it was bar!
- 'The staff are very, very friendly but for the average club the booze can be a bit expensive . . . £3 for a bottle of beer. I think that this is the best place in Edinburgh.’
LISA FLEMING
promotes, DJs, produces, and runs a radio show, and will be warmly welcomed to the club tonight. He’ll bejoining residents Scott Rapson, Bob Cairns and Mikey Stirton.
I Scratch at The Venue (top floor). 10.30pm—3am. £6 (£5). 8 Apr. Fortnightly. Tonight marks somewhat of a coup for this leading hip hop club with the UK debut of the Souls Of Mischief and DJ Appollo. The SOM were doing quality west coast hip hop while the Jurassic 5 were watching Sesame Street, and you’ll be pleased to hear that they have loads of new material to unleash on yo’ ass. Moreover, DJ Appollo (who, alongside Q-Bert, is part of the Scratch Picklz) will be showing off his outstanding skills. Essential.
I Shebang at Wilkie House. Missing out their normal 8 Apr slot as they’ll be at United. See se arate United entry.
I Substantialat E2K. llpm——3am. £10. 8 Apr. Monthly. Bobby and Steve (Garage City/Kiss FM) guest at this really rather popular garage club. The main room resident is Craig Smith, well known in his own right as an outstanding producer and DJ, while Mikey Stirton mans the decks downstairs with a mix of future jazz, Afro beat and other quality sounds.
I Teaseage at The Citrus. 11pm—3am. £4. Weekly. Indie, with a touch of dance and funk, played to a packed and sweaty crowd.
I Tribal Funktion at The Venue. llpm—3am. £10(£8). 8 Apr. Fortnightly. You would have heard by now that this is one of the last Tribals ever, and while it is terribly sad and unfortunate, you do have a number of seriously good nights until the finale. Tonight is the return of Derrick Carter, who suffered the all too familiar fate of having BA lose his records (he did, honest). To make up for the disappointment suffered by all and sundry, he’s popping back in tonight. It’ll be a huge one of the fabbest Chicago house, and we’ll see you down the front. I United at Potterrow and Teviot. 10pm—4am. £15. 8 Apr only. What was once called Under The Duvet is now called United, but it’s all in the same cause. Expect to see the mother of all line-ups in place at Teviot (with a much upgraded soundsystem) and Potterrow. Representing Joy will be Queen Maxine and Maggie, Taste have Jim ‘Shaft’ Ryan, Fisher & Price, Stuart Barrie and Martin Valentine, Shebang have Princess Julia and Gail Sellars, Luvely have Ian M (Trade) and Peter James, Slave have Alan Thompson (Trade), Robin and Lovejoy, while Fun have Trendy Wendy and Michelle. In addition to the music,
there’ll be the usual hair and makeovers, massage, clairvoyants and reiki. All the proceeds go The Names Project, and tickets are available from Virgin, Ripping, Fopp, Out of the Blue and Atomix.
I Vegas at E2K. Monthly. Next date 22 Apr.
