TOURING CABARET Super Girly

Edinburgh: Queen's Hall, Thu 30 Mar,

thentounng. As the proud wearers of either

sequin-studded stilettos or glam- soaked style boots, Super Girly have certainly managed to walk a good number of miles down the road to fame in the last eight months. The Australian singing duo Louise McClatchy and Jai Simone whose show Super Girly World was a sell- out on last year’s Edinburgh Fringe are girls who know how to have fun.

In mimicking songs by Britney Spears, the Spice Girls and Martine McCutcheon, they not only

slaughter the soft pop lyrics. but do some splendid general ribbing on the way. It is parody with a convoy of punch lines. Now they have a regular slot posing as make-up artists on the BBC's kid’s show Live And Kicking and are

on a UK-wide tour.

But as a supergirl, Louise McClatchy is the first to declare that butchery is a form of flattery. 'We admire the stars and we love their music,’ she says. And why else would the likes of Mick Jagger, Madonna and Elton John invite them to perform their send-ups of the singing stars at their private parties? Not that McClatchy has stars in her eyes. She might think tracksuits are one of the ugliest forms of clothing and that it's good to be girly, wear make-up and don outfits loaded with glitz, but her feet are on the ground. 'We are not in awe of celebrities,’ she says. 'They are not always the best of people. But Elton was really nice and supportive.’

Elton is obviously a superboy. (Susanna Beaumont)
