Food news with refreshments. Caffeine, a hot new Edinburgh coffee shop opening shortly, promises to be a labour of love for owners Ed Keefe and Alison Tudor. They’ve left behind careers in London for their new venture. Tudor, a designer with the Conran restaurant empire and Keefe, with a background in computing, have pooled talents to create this cafe and takeaway. As well as sampling the gourmet sandwiches and admiring Tudor's design in steel and translucent plastic, you can pick up your e-mail on a shiny new Mac.

Wine is ever more available from the cyber-supermarket. With Vroni’s Wine Bar and fine restaurants Gamba and Papingo under his belt, Alan Tomkins is now joining the Internet revolution. Part of a growing band of wine distributors on the web, www.wineorama.com offers a simple and streamlined list, many familiar to Tomkins‘s regular customers. 'l’ve stuck to the wines I regularly buy and taste,’ he explains. Look out for his new wine club coming soon.

Forth Element is part of Newhaven’s rapid rethink. The Next Generation sports club has expanded into the bar and restaurant sector with a new venue open to members and public alike. Forth Element — there's a small clue in the name — boasts a refreshing seaview from its plate glass circular windows and an executive chef, Brian Allen, who has had stints at London’s Dorchester Hotel and Skibo Castle. There’s a vaguely nautical theme, but we‘ll spare you further puns as we understand the menu extends beyond seafood.
