Converted from Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s first major public building and former offices of The Herald, this new venue is the home of Scotland’s centre for Architecture, Design and the City. Providing two main exhibition galleries and smaller display areas, there are facilities for conferences, education and IT suites, a shop and a cafe. On permanent display, the Mackintosh Interpretation Centre documents the life and work of Glasgow’s most famous architect-designer.

Included is ‘Chasm Chair’ designed by Glasgow-based designers One Foot Taller, a digital hand-drum by GSA graduate Ben Smith and plastic seating for children by Craig Whittet. Small Ugly Spaces Until Mon 10 Jan. A project in which secondary school pupils from Oslo, Norway look at ways to improve unsightly areas in the urban environment. The display includes photographs, maps, models and design
ideas.
The Shape Of Colour: RED Until Sun 16 Jan. The cultural and psychological meanings of the colour red are explored in this collection of objects that includes everything from a Swiss Army knife, a telephone box, Coca Cola, a Butlin’s Red Coat and a Ducati 90083 red motorbike.
Identity Crisis: The 905 Defined Until Sun 13 Feb. David Redhead, former editor of Design magazine, curates Glasgow 1999’s last major exhibition which looks at designed objects and images which are synonymous with the 19905. Tamagotchis, the Dyson vacuum cleaner or virtual girl Lara Croft — how will you remember the decade?

Identity Crisis: The 905 Defined Design therapy offered up to tamagotchis buyers and Lara Croft obsessed individuals, in an exhibition that puts the final decade of the 20th century on the couch. Glasgow: The Lighthouse until Sun 73 Feb. Eileen Agar The woman who held her own with the big boys of Surrealism is celebrated in this major show of her work. Agar was also known as a natty dresser and on display are a number of photographs showing her wearing the most fetching of Surrealist hats. See review.
