We predict that the expression ‘ouch' will cease to be an outburst after subbing ones tea. but the well recognised name of a Glaswegian club. lack Mottram explains.
Sounds a bit painful . . . Not at all, Ouch! are party organisers with a mission to create a clubbing experience where live musicians and Dis share top billing and inspire each other to reach new heights of musical creativity.
Does that mean there‘ll be a bloke
with some bongos hammering away in
the booth? Far from it, the next event features an exclusive performance from everyone‘s favourite beatsters The Jengaheads (pictured), merging vinyl manipulations with live instrumentation resulting, apparently, in a 'historic vibe'. Cain will also be bringing their tried and tested funk stylings to the mix, interacting with whatever takes their fancy.
Anything else? Oh yes. Engine are set
to play live, with the vocal talents of Liza
(Glasgow's answer to Lauryn Hill) and
Nordin, who adds a ragga flavour to the
group‘s sound.
This fancy live malarkey is all very well and good. but what about the 12103? Have no fear, Ouchl club nights are about adding a new element to the clubbing experience, not hanging the blessed 01. Expect the Jengaheads, Kev
Dillonand Edinburgh’s junglist and beat breaker G-Mac to spin more than a little
vinyl wonders.
All sounds rather ambitious, can they pull it off? Despite being a new name on the scene, the Ouch! crew have a couple of successes under their
collective belt, not least the launch party
for groovy radio station Beat 106. Their first Ouch! dub event rocked the Art Scth and was promoted with nifty little fiyers featuring a cocktail stick,
presumably intended to provoke cries of
‘ouchl‘ when mishandles by tired and emotional clubbers.
I Ouch! is at the Woodside Social Club on Fri 27 Jan.
