ART listings GLASGOW: THE LIGHTHOUSE continued
First Batch: The Glasgow Collection Until Sun 9 Jan. Set up as part of the Glasgow 1999 celebrations, The Glasgow Collection has funded a range of new design products, taking them to prototype stage and beyond. Over 40 projects by emerging and established designers from Glasgow and beyond feature in the display. Included is ‘Chasm Chair’ designed by Glasgow-based designers One Foot Taller, a digital hand-drum by GSA graduate Ben Smith and plastic seatin for children by Craig Whittet. The S ape Of Colour: RED Until Sun 16 Jan. The cultural and psychological meanings of the colour red are explored in this collection of objects that includes everything from a Swiss Army knife, a telephone box, Coca Cola, a Butlin’s Red Coat and a Ducati 9OOSS red motorbike. Ninety-Four For Ninety-Nine Until Sun 5 Dec. Objects, video footage, text and pictures make up this exhibition which looks at the range of schemes which have resulted from the Partnership Fund. Projects include an outdoor play area and a new stained-glass window in Hyndland Parish Church.
Azumi Until Fri 10 Dec. New work including furniture, interior accessories and tableware by design team Azumi, founded in 1995 by Shin and Tomoko Azumi.
Identity Crisis: The 90s Defined Until Sun 13 Feb. David Redhead, former editor of Design magazine curates Glasgow 1999’s last major exhibition looks at designed objects and images which are synonymous with the 19905. Tamagotchis, the Dyson vaccum cleaner or virtual girl Lara Croft - how will you remember the 905? See review.
Small Ugly Spaces Fri 3 Dec—Mon 10 Jan. A project in which secondary school pupils from Oslo, Norway looked at ways to improve unsightly areas in the urban environment. The display includes photographs, maps, models and design

Featuring over 150 images drawn from the Mitchell Library’s vast collection of visual material relating to Glasgow, this exhibition shows the changing aspects of Glasgow and its people over four centuries. Margaret Hunter, along with a group of international artists, was invited to make a painting on one of the last remaining pieces of the wall. In this show, Hunter shows paintings and sculptures.
