Converted from Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s first major public building and former offices of The Herald, this new venue is the home of , Scotland’s centre for Architecture, Design ,and the City. Providing two main exhibition galleries and smaller display areas, there are facilities for conferences, education and IT suites, a shop and a cafe. On permanent display, the Mackintosh Interpretation Centre documents the life and work of Glasgow’s most famous architect-designer. Please Touch Until Sun 9 Jan. Seven contemporary UK artists including Rachel Whiteread, Martin Boyce, Richard Wentworth and Julian Opie design a piece of furniture which in turn has been taken to prototype for the Glasgow Collection by SCP. Set up as part of the Glasgow 1999 celebrations, The Glasgow Collection has funded a range of new design products, taking them to prototype stage and beyond. Over 40 projects by emerging and established designers from Glasgow and beyond feature in the display. Included is ‘Chasm Chair’ designed by Glasgow-based designers One Foot Taller, a digital hand-drum by GSA graduate Ben Smith and plastic seatin for children by Craig Whittet. The Shape Of Colour: RED Until Sun 16 Jan. The cultural and psychological meanings of the colour red are explored in this collection of objects that includes everything from a Swiss Army knife, a telephone box, Coca Cola, a Butlin’s Red Coat and a Ducati 90083 red motorbike. The Red Space Until Sun 21 Nov. (Viewing Platform). Sam Ainsley creates an environment which draws a relationship between the panorama of the city and the human body. RSA Student Design Awards Until Tue 30 Nov. The cream of young British designers’ work is showcased in this exhibition featuring award-winning work in fashion, furniture, graphics, engineering design, animation, interior design and design management. Ninety-Four For Ninety-Nine Until Sun 5 Dec. Objects, video footage, text and pictures make up this exhibition which looks at the range of schemes which have resulted from the Partnership Fund. Projects include an outdoor play area and a new stained-glass window in Hyndland Parish Church. ' Azumi Until Fri 10 Dec. New work including furniture, interior accessories and tableware by design team Azumi, founded in 1995 by Shin and Tomoko Azumi. Identity Crisis: The 905 Defined Fri 26 Nov—Sun 13 Feb. The high profile of design in the 19905 has brought its own problems for designers.
