great food, great taste, great design
the future’s bright, the future's blue. two years after launching a new concept in cafe bars above edinburgh's traverse theatre, andrew radford has brought blue bar cafe to the heart of glasgow, the design capital of scotland. blue has recently opened its doors in a bright, modern space on ground and basement floors within the lighthouse, scotland's centre for architecture and design, seconds from buchanan street on mitchell lane.
created by the same team as edinburgh, andrew worked with architect andrea faed and furniture designer and manufacturer alasdair gall from concrete butterfly. blue is based on the simple but effective combination of minimalist decor, miles of glass, light oak and stainless steel, a varied menu with fine ingredients and attentive, friendly staff. care is taken to create the kind of atmosphere that has become blue’s trademark: relaxed and refreshing. offering inexpensive great food all day, a highly acclaimed wine list, award winning cocktails and good coffee throughout. david haetzman, edinburgh’s head chef, and michael smith, glasgow’s head chef, have devised the extensive menu combining all the elements that have helped establish the leading reputation of edinburgh's blue bar cafe. a choice of simple soups, crisp salads, light blues, larger mains, a selection of sausages, sandwiches and delicious puds. whether famished or just peckish, chilling out or partying, blue offers something for everyone.
